This strainer turned out to be better quality than expected for the money and is ideal for straining kefir. Note that it is WIDE (perfect for wide mouth ball jars). If you're looking to use it with a bottle (smaller opening) it will probably be too big. Other than that, I believe it's a great value & will last a long time. Even better if you can order it with other items & get free shipping, which is what I did.

I use my 4" strainer often. I would not strain hot items with it but room temperature or cold items are strained fine. It reached my house fast.

I ordered this strainer to use in making kefir. For my purposes, it is the perfect size 4" and the mesh is the right size for straining the kefir grains from the kefir after fermentation and then rinsing the grains before I start the new batch. It is easy to wash, and the mesh seems durable for this usage. The nylon does not absorb odors, so it is fresh for each batch with no remnants of odor from the previous batch. This strainer has greatly simplified my kefir making, and I am ordering another one for my friend who also makes kefir. It seems like it would be good, too, for other general purpose use around the kitchen.
update: I started using this strainer for sifting coconut flour for baking, and it works really well except that the 4" size is just a little small. I am ordering the larger size for this because I like how it sifts and because it is sooooo easy to wash.
